Watch Out For Mice And Ants This Winter So You Can Get Them Out

Posted on

Winter is on its way and when it comes there are intruders that will try to get into your home to find warm shelter and food. Two of these intruders are mice and ants. Knowing what to look for can help you get ahead of this problem so it does not become worse.

Mice

If you see one mouse you likely have more. This is especially true if you see a very small mouse as this is a baby. Set up mouse traps where you see mice. There are a variety of traps you can use. There are snap traps that you place bait on. When the mouse tries to eat the bait the trap snaps and breaks their neck. If you want the mice to live there are live traps. Once you catch the mice you then take them away from your home and any other homes and set them free.

Find where mice are getting in and block the entrances with something like steel wool. You can also use duct tape to close their entry. Look closely around the room and you may see where mice chewed their way in through a wall.

Mice can reproduce rapidly as one female has 32 to 56 babies each year. If you have more than one female in your home, you can imagine how quickly they can add up.

Ants

If you see ants in your home, you need to get them out or you will have a lot to deal with. Ants are difficult to keep out because they are so tiny and can fit through very small places, such as cracks in the wall, loose outlets, and more. Fortunately, you can get them to leave.

There are things you can try on your own to get the ants out. Chalk is one thing you can try. Draw a chalk line at the edge of the baseboards and ants will not cross this line. The chalk makes it difficult for them to breathe. You could also use baby powder instead of chalk as it works in the same way. If you do not have children or pets you can use borax powder which is deadly to ants.

Go to a home improvement store and purchase ant bait. One of the best to try is a gel that you squeeze onto a piece of cardboard card. Sit the card down where you see ants. Ants love the taste of the gel, but it is poisonous and will kill them.

Contact a pest control company if you do not want to do any of this on your own. They can get rid of mice and ants much quicker than you can as they know different techniques that you likely do not know. An ant control service can provide further information.
